Arnasungaaq’s sculpture is known for its broad, substantial volumes, spare detail, and immediate sense of character. This standing woman is built from large, rounded forms, with her arms drawn close to the body and her features cut with only the slightest intervention. The smooth swell of the torso and the firm frontal stance give the figure a strong physical presence, while the lifted face and broad smile soften that solidity with warmth and wit. The result is compact, genial, and unmistakably characteristic of Arnasungaaq’s mature sculpture.
