Eddy Cobiness builds the forest through an intricate network of pen lines, varying their weight and direction to separate bark, foliage, stone and fur. Dense cross-hatching gives the squirrel its rounded body and soft coat, while the surrounding trunks are defined with lighter, more open marks. The animal’s upright pose creates the central point of action, but Cobiness keeps the eye moving through the scene with long branches, vertical trees and repeated clusters of vegetation. Areas of untouched paper are equally important, preventing the detailed woodland setting from becoming heavy.
