Upon its release, Sea Gulls on Arctic Ice drew considerable critical praise. One reviewer admired the print's "spontaneous and powerful effect" [1], while another singled out the present work, alongside Niviaqsi's The Archer (1960, #45), as one he would gladly take home [2].

Sixty-five years later, we are equally won over by the elegant procession of six seabirds across the cream-coloured sheet. Smoky blue-grey bodies, darkened wingtips and delicately rendered rusty-red legs and beaks make for a wonderfully sophisticated palette. Simple, sweet and supremely stylish, this is, absolutely, a print to live with.
