Transformation is central to Avaalaaqiaq’s art, where human, animal, and spirit forms slip easily into one another. Here, six female heads emerge from a spreading spray of feather-like forms, their profiles repeated yet subtly varied in colour, contour, and expression. Above them, four birds sweep across the sheet, extending the sense of flight and metamorphosis from one register to the next. Faces become feathers, feathers suggest wings, and separate beings seem to share a single field of life. Through repetition, symmetry, and small shifts in form, Avaalaaqiaq creates a dense, sensuous image of beings in continual passage between states.
