As a figure that enters to disrupt any ceremonial proceeding, Gaxalagamł is often depicted as obnoxious and strange. This Gaxalagamł (Gaxala or Intruder) Mask, with its open mouth and penetrating eyes, announces its presence loudly to a room. Once there, it is up to the other performers to attempt to drive the figure back out again, sometimes with mixed success, but always to the amusement of the attendees and audience. Beautifully carved and painted, Tony Hunt Jr.'s hand and eye for tradition come forward in this mask, as is to be expected from someone with such strong knowledge of Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw ceremonial traditions.
