Allie Kasudluak (1926-1982) is a first-generation carver from Inukjuak. Kasudluak’s oeuvre is grounded in traditional Arctic life. His sculptures typically depict wildlife, primarily walruses and birds, and are noted for their lively realism and simplified form. This rather corpulent walrus typifies the best of Inukjuak sculpture from the 1960s and 1970s, with a form that begs to be caressed by an open palm.
