Little is known of Annie Timangiak, whose surviving body of work is exceedingly small, although the few known examples suggest a sculptor of considerable sensitivity and skill.

In this delightful figure, the woman's generously proportioned body is composed of broad, rounded forms, skilfully separated by sharp cuts and sweeping incisions. The fullness of her shoulders, arms and folded legs contrasts beautifully with the narrow, delicately modelled face, the slender fingers clasping the quilliq (kudlik), and the tiny feet tucked beneath her. Particular care has been lavished on the hair, its closely spaced grooves and softly curving strands providing a pleasing counterpoint to the smooth, expansive surfaces of the body.

The granular grey stone, so characteristic of the flourishing early years of carving in Salluit during the 1950s, retains much of its natural, subtly mottled surface. There is something especially satisfying in the contrast between the coarse texture of the stone and the delicacy of its smallest details, all contained within a figure of considerable warmth and fullness.
