Steven Clay Brown, a noted scholar of North Pacific Coast art, devotes his practice to tracing the transformations and visual language of Northwest Coast design. In this work, he reimagines the salmon through a flowing network of interlaced formlines. The bold curves and mirrored contours create a sense of motion and vitality, as if the salmon were swimming through the surface itself. Carefully carved details and pools of negative space draw the eye in circles of colour and contrast, celebrating the pulse and precision that define this enduring visual tradition.
