This charming figure of a standing Inuk dates to the mid 1950’s and is carved from a lovely example of the beautiful local stone in common usage during the early years (but seemingly quarried to extinction). Although unsigned, this sculpture is reminiscent of early works by Isa Oomayoualook and Ennutsiak (who, while best known as an Iqaluit artist, migrated from Nunavik as a young man). We love how the figure has his arms tight by his sides in a pose that suggests he might be feeling the cold!
