This charming hunter is either signalling his campmates or throwing his hands up in frustration. We prefer to think the former since his graphic works produced in the short period from 1960 to 1968* seems to depict scenes of plentiful bounty and successful hunts. This is a rather rare sculptural work by the artist and we can’t help but wonder what else he made have contributed to art-making in Puvirnituq had he not died at a relatively young age just as the Inuit art market was reaching full velocity.
*two of his prints seem to have been produced posthumously.
