This lovely later Barnabus muskox was likely produced when the artist was well into his eighties. No longer physically able to precisely carve individual guard hairs into the hard stone as he did in the early 1970s, Barnabus instead relied on a grinding wheel to incise vertical striations into the stone. The imposing stature of this striking ovibos, coupled with its prominent surface decoration, show that the elder Barnabus knew how to extract maximum results while husbanding his physical resources.
