When speaking of a similar work in the Art Gallery of Ontario, Aqigaaq explained,
"Lying in bed at night, I start to remember the time we lived out on the land and I long to go back. I remember vividly how Inuit used to live as I experienced it myself and can express this was of life easily in my carvings. We lived a hard life. We were always hungry. It was a happy time when somebody would catch a fish like this woman has. I chose this carving of a mother and child fishing because seeing it again brings back a lot of feelings. There is a special meaning in my carvings; the stories they tell are meant for my grandchildren" [1].
