Robert Davidson Sr. was a commercial fisherman by trade but also a skilled carpenter. He built his own houses, and was commissioned to build two Haida canoes with his brother....Robert Davidson Sr. was a commercial fisherman by trade but also a skilled carpenter. He built his own houses, and was commissioned to build two Haida canoes with his brother. Davidson took up argillite carving relatively late in life, but acted as a mentor and advisor to his grandson Robert before his death in 1969.
