Kiugak was equally at ease carving subjects from daily camp life as he was creating incredible imaginative inventions from the Inuit spirit world (see Lot 21). This sculpture of a young woman is especially poignant; her expression and gesture lend her a beseeching air. The artist lavished special attention on the woman’s amautiq.
