Although Seal Hunter has much more of a conventional narrative focus than many of the artist's other works, Parr’s characteristic direct approach to form is clearly present in this print. (The image may have been pulled from a larger composition by the artist, as was sometimes done in Cape Dorset – see Parr’s drawing, Lot 104.) The “c” shape created by the body and flipper of the seal below relates in contour to the bent-over hunter figure, creating a sense of both contrast and balance. Wisely printed on a half sheet, Timothy Ottochie accentuates the verticality, and thus the drama, of the composition.
