The gentle flair of the basket walls, and the carefully placed repeat patterns (with the change in pattern on the back wall of the basket), point to a skilled hand. Unlike the false braid rim that features in baskets by neighboring groups, this Lillooet work has what equates to a whip-stitch self-rim, which creates a beautifully smooth edge to the coiled root and bark.
