A mainstay of the annual print collection in the 1970s and 1980s, Eliyakota Samualie had a distinct style and flair for one of her favorite subjects, birds. Many of her works are notable for their precision, stylization, and symmetry, some of which we can see in this petite print. The stark, piercing eyes of the owl are anchored in the centre of the work, while the various parts of himself and his neighbours are differentiated in repeat patterns. The light gradient of colour behind hints at a sunset or sunrise, a good time for these birds to meet.
