A contemporary interpretation of the Bear Up the Mountain Pole that belonged to Chief Shakes of Wrangell, Alaska, this pole was carved by Sitka-based Tlingit artist James M. Williams Jr. This model pole features an upright sitting bear atop a shaft with relief carved bear paw prints. Williams has studied under Tlingit master carver Wayne Price, whose influence can be seen in the fine sculptural features of the bear’s face. This pole was originally sold by the Mt. Juneau Trading Post and comes with original sales documentation.
