The couple often carved together, brought each other’s carvings to the local co-op, and sometimes even signed their own names when the other had forgotten to do so. It was clear that the two adored each other and their children, and this is frequently apparent in their many depictions of family life. This carving by Miriam is almost certainly a depiction of Silas giving a piggyback ride to one of their young children. The father, dressed in a traditional men’s attigi parka, is probably holding the belt of his rear pack tightly to give his son a more comfortable and secure ride.Provenance
