It is regrettable that market forces seemed to forced Henry to concentrate on animal subjects, particularly polar bears, for so much of his career, considering that his carvings of the human figure are really quite exceptional. Henry produced numerous portrait busts, depictions of hunters, and even delicate small maskettes, each of which displays the artist's skill at rendering the human face. One always senses that these portraits represent actual people rather than generic “Inuit faces.”

This exquisitely carved Young Girl Skipping Rope captures the subject’s youthful exuberance beautifully, and the wonderful skipping rope implies dynamic motion. The delicate facial features and beautiful proportions are quite exceptional. Charming!
