One can easily be forgiven for mistaking this charming Standing Owl as a work by either Tudlik or Latcholassie Akesuk. At first glance the sculpture appears to owe a stylistic debt to the father and son duo, but on closer inspection one notices distinct differences. Birds by Tudlik tend to be short and stout, whereas this sprightly fellow seems rather lean and lanky. We love this owl’s rather bemused expression. Jamasie Teevee was a highly regarded graphic artist, but only a very few sculptures by him have been documented. We wish he had carved more.

References: Jamasie Teevee was a beloved graphic artist in Cape Dorset. Over a career that spanned about twenty years his images were used in almost one hundred Cape Dorset prints. Jamasie experimented enthusiastically with engraving and lithography techniques as well as submitting drawings that were translated into stonecut prints.
