As can be seen throughout her career, many of Pitaloosie Saila's depictions of animals have a delightful playfulness to them. Here, we are treated to a bird almost relaxing on the water as its feathers undulate and wave out around it. There is a finesse in the coloured pencil work, creating a study of different textures and intensities of colour along the bird, all in meticulous strokes and delicate shading that showcase Saila’s careful hand and mastery of the medium. The water, a series of gentle ripples below the bird, has its own texture that adds a more vibrant pop of colour that isn’t out of place in the scene.
