A respected hunter, Pitsiulak divided his time between drawing in the studio and hunting — he referred to the edge of the ice floe as his ‘office.’ He was also a talented photographer.
This drawing was made in 2008 and so reflects the style of his early works in which he captured the likeness of everyday objects with loving detail. Here he depicts a wood saw whose blade has been cut up, re-purposed —or “transformed” if you like — to create three ulus which are the distinctive shaped knives used by Inuit women.Provenance
