While the work is called Grey Owl, this title belies the clever colour composition of the present print. Here, the wings of the owl undulate outward in calligraphic-like lines that seem spontaneous and full of spirit. These colourful ribbons of grey and burgundy, as well as the brown-red and black of the owl's body, are contrasted with the free-spirited pear-like yellow lower wings of the bird. The sharpness of lemon hued talons reiterate the protective stance of the owl, who guards the smiling woman behind it.
