Eli Tait was a carver based in Metlakatla, Alaska, who was among the original Tsimshian party that moved from British Columbia to Anette Island, Alaska, in 1887. Tait was a...Eli Tait was a carver based in Metlakatla, Alaska, who was among the original Tsimshian party that moved from British Columbia to Anette Island, Alaska, in 1887. Tait was a prolific and well-known carver who seems to have originated the “good luck” style model poles that featured a bald eagle, salmon, and bear. This model is unusual for also featuring the human figure at the bottom of the pole.
