Peters was a promising up-and-coming artist who studied with master carvers Dwayne Simeon, Beau Dick, and Russell Smith, but whose life was unfortunately cut short at just 34 years old. Today, his masks are sought out by collectors for their clean lines and excellent design.

The Atlakim Dance is an important Kwakwaka’wakw winter ceremonial dance that is drawn from an oral tradition that tells the story of an orphaned boy who gets lost in the woods. Here, the boy encounters an ensnared grouse. Promising great wealth if freed, the boy liberates the bird and the grouse guides the child through the forest, where they meet many spirits who teach the child various virtues.
