The present canvas was created prior to Ray's introduction to Norval Morrisseau the "x-ray" style of the "Woodlands School." Here, Ray depicts the serenity of nature: tree tops and peninsulas of land draw patterns into the water's surface while the reflection of the moon light becomes part of the lake's surface. The only interruption of the stillness of this soft, summer evening is family of loons that float near the lower left, barely breaking the placid water's surface.
