One side was intricately carved and the whorls are critical to understanding the Coast Salish carving style. Spindle whorls have been the inspiration for many of Susan Point’s sculptures and limited edition prints. Susan Point – Spindle Whorl was the title for her 1971 exhibition and catalogue for the Vancouver Art Gallery and included many interpretations of whorls in wood, glass, cast materials and limited edition prints. In this design she has used the central hole as the sun with blazing rays framed by the fins of four Killer Whales.
