Bill Reid is one of the most celebrated artists of his generation. His artistic contributions span all scale from miniature to monumental and a variety of mediums beginning with his primary interest in precious metals and later wood and castings in bronze for public sites.

The classic frog pin has become an icon of Northwest Coast, a piece created in an open edition at a time when Reid was in high demand for large public art works and major jewellery commissions and at values that reflect Reid’s position as one of Canada’s most recognized artists. Reid produced a series of prints in relatively high editions to make Haida art accessible and to keep a presence in galleries and greater exposure to the growing audience for Northwest Coast art. The frog pin was also intended for the same purpose – a classic design and sought after design.
