In 1973, Josh, along with his brothers Henry and Goyce, opened the Triple K Co-operative, a silkscreen studio based in Red Lake. Kakegamic's works, such as the present Turtle Island, expressed traditional imagery with brilliant black formlines, earth-inspired tones, and thorny determinatives. For his subject, Kakegamic has chosen a narrative that features throughout Anishinaabe First Nations: the origin story of Turtle Island. The story tells that the turtle carries the world on its back.
