The Kolus or immature Thunderbird is a supernatural being associated with both weather patterns (causing the thunder and lighting) an adversary to the sea kingdom by preying on killer whales which otherwise had no natural enemies, as well as being a transformational figure moving between bird and human to assist the human world – the thunderbird lifted the logs in its talons and set the first crossbeams on longhouses to create the first of these large architectural structures. It would later transform into human form and declare that he was now a brother to the first human.
