Beginning his artistic career at the young age of nine in Kangiqliniq (Rankin Inlet), George Arluk's early works show a strong influence of senior artists, in particular John Tiktak. Following his relocation to Arviat, the artistic styles of Pangnark and Tasseor started to shape his work. However, by the early 1970s, Arluk had cultivated his unique artistic style. His later pieces are distinctively marked by their vibrant sense of movement, showcasing abstract forms that interplay in rhythmic patterns.  Dancing Figure illustrates the bravura of the artist's mature style.  Here, with great finesse, he elongates and distorts the figure's limbs and body with a deliberate disregard for the confines of anatomy to create a powerful figure that seems fierce and ripe with pent up energy.
