For his contribution to the 1985 The Canadian Encyclopedia, Jack Butler's comments, to our eye, perfectly describe the present straight forward style of this diminutive work. Butler writes, "His sculptures, of extreme formal simplicity, describe the intimate life of his people..."[1]. Here we are presented with the head of an Inuk in a hooded parka. His minimalist style, while guileless, verges on abstraction. The elongated forms are so formally compelling that the figure gives the artist Amedeo Modigliani a run for his money.
