While they were all quite delightful, unless they were signed (often in pencil), it is sometimes hard to tell one artist’s work from another. Peter Inukshuk eschewed the formulaic, especially in his portrayals of human figures but also in his depictions of birds. In his highly distinctive sculptures of birds the artist opted for a pleasing combination of materials, generally featuring a stone body with antler heads, and in this case, also legs. While most Inukshuk avian compositions feature birds of varying sizes affixed to a separate base, this composition is even more atypical in that the chick is rendered piggyback upon its mother. Brilliant.Provenance
