Through June and July Char that aren't trapped in lakes begin their migration to the sea, usually through freshly opened up rivers no longer blocked with ice. Caught in nets, weirs, and on lines dropped through the ice (a method the artist was known for doing herself), they make up a delicious part of the northern diet. Distinctive with its lighter belly in contrast to its darker dorsal side, Kenojuak's char floats through a wall of aquatic vegetation, caught and framed by the long lines of seaweed.
