A shaman would be told by a spirit what design to put on the coat, and he would have a woman sew it. He would tell her what would go where. The meaning of this one is that he has been touched by a spirit; that's what the hands are for. This design is actually from old photographs in the National Museum in Ottawa. It has a hat and mitts to go with it, all made form caribou skin, but no pant legs or kamiik."
