A master at depicting animals in his work, Tim Pitsiulak had a great ability to portray the character and feelings of his drawn and printed subjects. Shaggy polar bears keeping an eye on their next meal and great blue whales covered in tattoos were equally rendered with fine details and a sense of realism coming off the page. In their forward to the 2010 Annual Print Collection catalogue, Leslie Boyd Ryan and John Westren speak to the feel of this print, "rounding out the roster this year is Tim Pitsiulak,
whose more prosaic print, Vigilant Wolves is nevertheless intriguing for in this scene two wolves
wait out the herd under a sky that is at once peaceful and ominous." With a striking sunset (or sunrise), and the deceivingly calm presence of these two predators, we couldn't agree more.

Leslie Boyd Ryan, John Westren, Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection 2010, (Dorset Fine Arts, Kinngait, 2004), p. 4.
