Mind Body and Spirit and Four Directions...Roy Thomas's artistic style evolved from the more traditional Woodlands style, associated with Norval Morrisseau, toward more minimalist forms composed of lyrical lines. Mind Body and Spirit and Four Directions is a testament to this mature style. Darting through a cloudless sky, we encounter three overlapping forms of a loon. The abstracted configuration of the birds allows us to examine the powerful interplay of mass and void, which is fundamentally a statement that invites us to meditate on the ways in which our own mind, body, and spirit interact. The four directions are represented by the set of pine trees at lower right.
