It is interesting to note that, for the most part, depictions of muskoxen seem more photographic in their realism when originating in communities where no muskoxen are to be found. Sculpted versions by Kananginak Pootoogook and Lucassie Ikkidluak for example are wonderfully lifelike. How refreshing, then, to be presented with Pudlo Pudlat’s surreal interpretation replete with his signature sense of humour and childlike glee. This print is a perfect marriage of Pudlo Pudlat’s skill as a draftsman and Lukta Qiatsuk’s prowess as a printmaker. We love how they have depicted the glowing hue of the ends of the flowing guard hairs. Simply wonderful!Provenance
