A fine nineteenth-century coiled huckleberry basket from the Columbia River Plateau region, likely Klickitat or Yakama. The design appears to be the “salmon gill” pattern and the basket is missing...A fine nineteenth-century coiled huckleberry basket from the Columbia River Plateau region, likely Klickitat or Yakama. The design appears to be the “salmon gill” pattern and the basket is missing the coils that go along the top. This basket appears to have had lots of use with hide thongs added, perhaps to replace the missing top coils.
