The Sun masks were often hand held or suspended props that would rise from behind a dance curtain representing the veil between the natural and supernatural world. The sun represents both an ancestral lineage and the creation of the world as well as the cycles and gifts of the sun which includes ties to weather, the season arrival of food sources such as salmon and berries and the preparation for hunting and fishing expeditions.
