In Spectacular Ravens, the essentials of a distinguished composition are concentrated to a delightful degree. The shapes of the birds are delineated with mechanical precision by the negative space of Qiatsuq Niviaqsi’s incised lines. Their forms are inked in dazzling, carnival-like colours that stand out in striking contrast to one another. The ravens overlap and are interlocked in a tight grouping that seems to hover weightlessly in the indeterminate, restful space of the white sheet. The whole composition could be an element of design for a stained glass window.
