Although Vital Makpaaq possessed a skilled hand and keen eye for both carving and creating works on paper, he was not as prolific as many of his peers in the...Although Vital Makpaaq possessed a skilled hand and keen eye for both carving and creating works on paper, he was not as prolific as many of his peers in the early days of Qamani'tuaq's artistic development. His work is characterized by a minimalist style that highlights simple details and forms in both his print and sculpted work. Archer and Hunter, both part of the inaugural 1970 print collection, are the only two prints he created in his lifetime, yet they are still regarded as small masterpieces. The figures, only a few inches tall on the page, mirror his small carvings with their bodies in motion and graceful lines.Provenance
