Her work, undoubtedly informed by the artistic lineage of her step-father, Luke Anguhadluq, captures the muskox with a charming snout and carefully carved eyes that bring personality and life to the creature. This work not only implies movement but also hints at the muskox's environment; we see only the creature's hump and head, as if it is serenely bobbing along the surface of a hidden stream. While muskoxen are not renowned swimmers, their tendency to wade in waterways and the playful antics of the calves have been noted in the wild. It is enchanting how the artist – with her relatively modest body of work comparative to her step-siblings – has captured such a delightful scene.Provenance
Collection of John and Joyce Price, Seattle.
