While he...Simigak was born into an artistic Cape Dorset family, both of his parents are carvers, and his grandparents were graphic artists Jamasee and Angotigaluk Teevee (see lot 26). While he has produced a variety of animal subjects, his most impressive sculptures by far are his dynamic representations of birds of prey. One senses the tremendous power in this magnificent hawk.
