While Kananginak is better known for his depictions of owls & caribou, his bears are quite exceptional. This golden hued marvel is a direct descendant of Kananginak’s 1964/5 stonecut Injured Bear. Upon examining this print, the stonecutting craftsmanship is astonishingly meticulous, with each hair distinctly carved—a feat accomplished by the skilled hands of master printer Qiatsuq Niviaqsi. In collaboration, Kananginak and Qiatsuq have created a captivating portrayal of what is widely regarded as the quintessential Arctic animal.
