This small but highly detailed model totem pole on a stout base with chamfered edges is probably carved by the same artist as Lot 16 (Paul Jones). The top figure is an eagle with an upright head, folded wings, and tail feathers lightly etched on the back of the figure on the flat back of the pole. The wings and tail are carved with naturalistic feathers and the breast and legs are carved with layered feathers and textured scales respectively. Below the eagle is a raven with a downturned beak and a salmon held in its mouth that partially drapes across the wings. The wings are shaped like and feature the same small rows of feathers as the wings on the Paul Jones pole. Between the wings is a humanoid face with a small beak in place of a nose. The bottom figure is a seated bear mother holding an upright cub as if seated on its lap, with a cut-through space between the cub and the mother’s chest.
