Using a deeply rooted practical tradition and skill, a tight, coiled twining technique makes a basket water resistant and secure, and a double warp wrapping allows for the design to be visible on both the outside and inside of the basket. This lovely circular example features a repeat pattern of a large fish or whale and ducks along the body of the basket. The weave of the lid, with its repeat of flying birds, gently curls around its centre, the faint remnants of coloured rings peeking throughProvenance
