Nancy Dawson, the talented artist believed to be the maker of this mask, embarked on her carving journey around 1980. Her skills were further honed in 1984 under the mentorship...Nancy Dawson, the talented artist believed to be the maker of this mask, embarked on her carving journey around 1980. Her skills were further honed in 1984 under the mentorship of Tony Hunt and John Livingston. By the 1990s, Dawson broadened her artistic repertoire, venturing into the design and production of exquisite gold and silver jewellery.
The present mask portrays a figure the artist has denoted as Hawkman. Distinctive split U-forms illustrate the feathers of this formidable bird of prey, while the sharply hooked nose evokes the hawk's beak. Plumage extends from the cheeks to create an intriguing contour to the mask.
