The two artists differed in one important way, however. Whereas Pangnark often abbreviated the human form almost to pure abstraction, Miki’s carvings and sculptures are always recognizable as animals; their particular ambiguity lies in the identification of species. This charming example of Miki’s famous “cookie cutter” style is typical; we can’t even be certain if the little creature is mammalian or avian. As with so many of Miki’s smaller works, this little fellow fits comfortably in the palm of one’s hand like an enigmatic implement.Provenance
